Stick #72: At the End of the Road (Unfavorable)
穷途末路志莫灰，末路之中有转机。放下执念换思路，新路往往在旧蹊。
Plain reading
Do not lose heart at the end of the road — change often hides beside the old path. Release fixed obsession and shift your thinking; a new way may open where the old one seemed to stop.
Interpretation
This is an unfavorable lot titled "At the End of the Road." All seems finished — yet "release obsession, change thinking; new roads often lie beside old tracks" shows the end may hide a beginning; changing mind is the turn.
Situation notes
- Career: If old path blocks, transfer, change trade, or accept lower post — all are new roads.
- Relationships: If love reaches its end, release fixation — parting or reunion both may open roads.
- Wealth: If old income dies, shift thinking — skills, side work, all may open flow.
Common misread
Auspicious tiers (such as Unfavorable) are tone, not a verdict. Name one action you control before redrawing.
Advice
Write the thing you most cling to; deliberately choose the opposite or abandon it entirely; observe three days. Ask someone from a wholly different field — unexpected paths often appear.
From the Book of Jin: Tao Yuanming refused to bow for five dou of rice and returned to the fields — at life's dead end he opened a garden — letting go is itself a new road.
