Temperance Tarot Meaning: Upright & Reversed

Temperance stands with one foot in water, one on land, cups pouring in cycle—the alchemical merge of opposites through patience and purpose. Neither hurry nor stagnation; balance is the art.

Temperance upright

Upright, Temperance calls for blend—work and life, reason and feeling, fast and slow finding golden proportion. The angel pours continuously, not all at once: moderation is difficult balance, not mediocrity.

Advice: Proceed step by step. Adjust one thing daily. Integration beats war.

Temperance reversed

Reversed, the stream spills: excess, harsh restriction, emotional swings, or peace outside and fracture within. Rushing the gold fails—return to pace and patience.

Advice: Name one extreme habit. Change a small balance point—do not demand overnight rebirth.

Love & relationships

Upright: Complementary partners merge slowly; gentle talk heals old hurt.

Reversed: Addiction or emotional extremes, or "harmony" hiding unresolved knots.

Career & action

Upright: Cross-team work and compromise succeed over time.

Reversed: Crushing overtime or checked-out slacking—team rhythm breaks.

Common misread

Reversed is not automatic misfortune. It often flags friction, delay, or an inner resistance—and invites a clearer question. Keep major decisions grounded in real constraints.
